Pulse Nightclub Memorial Workshop at Franconia

June 19 @ 3:00 pm

Franconia invites you to join Cuban-American artist Sebastian Duncan-Portuondo on Friday, June 19th from 3-7PM for a powerful workshop in remembrance of the victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting. On June 12, 2016, 29-year-old Omar Mateen shot and killed 49 people and wounded 58 in a mass shooting at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Duncan-Portuondo’s long term project, Club EXILE, memorializes the lives lost in the Pulse shooting, and explores home and exile as sites for community building and cross-identification.

Participants on June 19th will assist Sebastian in creating 49 faux stained glass tiles to adorn the windows of Franconia’s Education Center for our Midsummer Pride Party on Saturday, June 20th. This poignant installation will become the backdrop for Saturday’s drag shows and DJ set.
  • Free to all, no registration or experience required (recommended for ages 10 and up).
  • Drop in for an hour or stay for the entire time.
This activity is made possible in part by a grant from the East Central Regional Arts Council with funds appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature from its general fund.
